I was born and raised in Tampa, Florida, of Cuban immigrant
parents. I am the second of three sons. My oldest brother manages
the family business, an electrical contracting and fire prevention
company. He was named one of the top 100 Hispanic Americans of 1995.
My youngest brother is a practicing pediatrician.
I have been married for thirty years and have three daughters
and a son. I have lived in Houston, Texas since 1975. I have developed
an interest in business and management in order to develop better
patient care and value. I have always had an interest in management
which evolved in teaching and writing about issues of group process,
organizational development, and leadership.
Dr. Borrell has been in private practice for twenty-five years. He
is a graduate of Emory University and trained at a Harvard Medical
School affiliated program at McClean Hospital and Sheppard Pratt
Hospital in Baltimore. He is Board Certified in Adult Psychiatry
and Addictionology. He has received special recognition by the American
Psychiatric Association and the American Society for Adolescent
Psychiatry, and was conferred fellowship status. He has special
interest in working stress-related issues and families in transition.
The focus of his practice is working with individuals in partnership
to identify the change that they need to make in order to be fulfilled
and satisfied in their personal life and careers. He has recruited
a team of physicians who have special experience in various areas
to provide services for Positive Changes for Health & Beauty.
In addition, he is quite interested in understanding the relationships
between the mind and the body. He works in consultation with primary
physicians in order to help individuals cope with major medical
problems in order to improve the response to traditional medical
interventions and alternative holistic approaches to illness.
Having attended business school, Dr. Borrell is quite knowledgeable
about issues related to stress in the work place and in career transitions.
He is also available to individuals or corporations for coaching
of individuals regarding career development for leadership and team
development, conflict resolution, and understanding motivations
and maintaining self-esteem.
Dr. Leo Borrell is a board certified physician with graduate certification
in child, adolescent and adult psychiatry. He is an Assistant Clinical
Professor at Baylor College of Medicine and the University of Texas
School of Medicine, and Consultant to the Adolescent Medicine Clinic
at Baylor. He was a founder of West Oaks Hospital and of Stafford
meadows Hospital. He has practiced in Houston for 15 years and is
currently President of M.D. Weight Care, a Houston Weight Loss Clinic,
and Comprehensive Weight Management, a national company for the
treatment of severe obesity. He was on the Board of Directors of
MedCenter Bank, and is a founder of Harris, Webb and Garrison. He
is on the Board of Directors of Interactive Health Systems and Health
Management Solutions. He founded the Cosmetic Surgery & Aesthetic
Centers of America in 2000.
